Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about image compression, file sizes, formats, and privacy.

When should I convert JPG to PNG?

Choose PNG when an editor, document workflow or upload form specifically requires it. For ordinary photo sharing, keeping the JPG is often simpler and produces a smaller file. Converting to PNG does not make a blurry photo sharper.

Does conversion improve image quality?

No. PNG saves the decoded JPG without another lossy encoding step, but existing blur and JPG artefacts remain. It is useful as an editing copy, not a way to recover detail. Changing the format also does not create transparent areas.

Will the converted file be smaller?

A JPG photograph can become much larger as PNG because PNG stores the decoded pixels without JPG’s lossy compression. The extra bytes do not recover lost detail. Keep JPG for ordinary photo sharing unless your editor or upload form requires PNG.

Does converting JPG to PNG remove the background?

No. PNG supports transparency, but conversion does not identify or remove the background. The JPG’s visible background stays in the picture. To create transparent areas, remove the background in an image editor and save that edited image as PNG.

Will the image dimensions change?

Original pixel dimensions are preserved. Images must be no more than 8,000 pixels on either side and 32 million pixels in total. Export a smaller copy in your image editor first if needed.

Can I convert several photos and download them together?

Yes. Select up to 20 images, 25 MB each. Download completed files separately or as a ZIP once at least two are ready. A failed image does not block the others.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Images are processed locally in your browser, and the originals are not overwritten. Review the exported copy before sharing.
