Answers to common questions about image compression, file sizes, formats, and privacy.
How do I compress an image online?
Choose up to 20 JPG, PNG or WebP images, up to 25 MB each. Compression happens automatically on your device. The format and dimensions are preserved. If the result is not smaller, the original is kept.
Can I compress JPG, PNG and WebP images?
Yes. JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, and WebP stays WebP. The maximum is 8000 pixels per side and 32 million pixels in total. Animated PNG and WebP files are kept unchanged.
Does compressing an image reduce its quality?
JPG and WebP are recompressed with a moderate lossy setting, so some detail can change. PNG is optimized losslessly without reducing its colors. Compare the preview and keep the original for future editing.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Pixilo processes image compression directly in your web browser. Your image does not need to be uploaded to an external server for compression, so the original file remains on your device during the compression process.
Is Pixilo a free image compressor?
Yes. Choose your images, compare the automatically compressed results and download the copies you want. No account or installation is needed. The automatic compressor has no quality slider and does not make every file smaller.
What is the best way to reduce image file size?
Adjust the quality and compare the preview and file sizes. Lower quality can reduce file size but may remove detail. Already optimized images may not become smaller.
Why should I compress images before uploading them to a website?
Compressing images before adding them to a website can reduce page weight and help images load faster. Smaller image files use less bandwidth and storage, which can be especially useful for mobile visitors and pages that contain many images. Image compression is an important part of website performance and image optimization.
How much can an image be compressed?
The result depends on the source image, its format and its existing compression. This tool keeps the format and dimensions unchanged. Compare the original and output sizes; if compression does not save space, Pixilo keeps the original.
