Answers to common questions about this tool, image formats, and privacy.
Does this tool preserve animated WebP?
No. This tool creates a still AVIF image from the WebP. Keep the original WebP if you need animation.
Which files can I convert to AVIF?
Select up to 20 images, 25 MB each. Conversion runs locally, one image at a time. The output is a still image; original HDR information and metadata are not fully preserved.
Does converting WebP to AVIF add compression loss?
Yes. This tool re-encodes the decoded WebP with a fixed lossy AVIF setting. It cannot restore detail missing from a lossy WebP, and even a lossless WebP can change. There is no quality slider, so inspect the result and keep the original.
Is converting an already small WebP worthwhile?
Often the saving is limited because WebP is already efficient. Compare downloaded sizes and image detail before switching. If AVIF is larger, or the saving is too small to justify visible changes, keeping the WebP is a reasonable choice.
When is AVIF more useful than keeping WebP?
Use it when a still image becomes meaningfully smaller, looks acceptable and works in your publishing system. Test the uploaded result as well as the local file. Keep WebP for animation or for a destination that does not accept AVIF.
Does AVIF change the image dimensions?
No. The original pixel dimensions are kept. Images must be no more than 8,000 pixels per side and 32 million pixels in total. Reduce oversized images in an editor first.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Processing happens locally in your browser.
