Answers to common questions about image compression, file sizes, formats, and privacy.
When should I convert HEIC to WebP?
WebP is useful for website photos when the destination supports that format. Adjust quality to balance detail and file size, then check the downloaded image. If the recipient or upload form requires JPG or PNG, use the converter for that format instead.
How do I choose WebP quality?
Start with the default quality and lower it if you need a smaller file. Check fine detail, text and smooth color transitions; this export uses lossy compression and cannot restore detail already lost. If you change quality after conversion, run the conversion again and download the new result. Compare the actual file size, since high quality does not guarantee a smaller file than HEIC.
Will the converted file be smaller?
Not necessarily: HEIC already stores photos efficiently. Lowering WebP quality can reduce file size but also removes detail; raising it can produce a file larger than the original. Check fine details and the actual output size instead of assuming that changing formats guarantees a reduction.
Can I convert HEIF files and Live Photos too?
You can select HEIC and HEIF files, but decoding support depends on how the file was encoded. The result is a single still image, not a Live Photo video or an animation. Keep the original if you need motion, multiple frames or other source features.
What should I do if a HEIC file will not convert?
Confirm that it is a genuine HEIC or HEIF image, not another format with a renamed extension. Check the 25 MB file limit and the pixel limits below. If it still fails, try another photo or export a compatible copy from your photo app; some encodings or damaged files cannot be decoded by this converter.
Will the image dimensions change?
Original pixel dimensions are preserved. Images must be no more than 8,000 pixels on either side and 32 million pixels in total. Export a smaller copy in your image editor first if needed.
Can I convert several photos and download them together?
Yes. Select up to 20 images, 25 MB each. Download completed files separately or as a ZIP once at least two are ready. A failed image does not block the others.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Images are processed locally in your browser, and the originals are not overwritten. Review the exported copy before sharing.
