Answers to common questions about this tool, image formats, and privacy.
Can I check whether metadata was removed?
Yes. The removal tool reads the original and exported copy separately and compares supported fields. Basic image information can remain. An incomplete or failed read cannot confirm removal.
What metadata is removed?
The tool redraws the visible image into a new file instead of copying the source metadata. Source EXIF fields such as camera model, capture settings, capture date and GPS coordinates are left out. The exported file may still contain basic format information created during export.
Does removing metadata change my original file?
No. Pixilo creates a new downloaded copy. Your original image remains unchanged on your device.
Does this remove the visible content of the image?
No. The visible image is re-exported while embedded source metadata is left out. As with any browser export, the new copy may be encoded again.
Does removing metadata make a photo anonymous?
No. Visible faces, addresses, licence plates, text and watermarks remain in the image. The suggested filename also keeps the original base name. Check the picture and filename before sharing; metadata removal alone does not hide everything that can identify someone.
Will the image quality or file size change?
The pixel dimensions are preserved, but the image is exported again. JPG and WebP can lose some quality during re-encoding, and the file may become larger or smaller. Keep your original and inspect the downloaded copy if image quality matters.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Processing happens locally in your browser.
