Answers to common questions about this tool, image formats, and privacy.
Does converting JPG to AVIF restore detail?
No. Conversion cannot restore detail lost in the JPG. Re-encoding can introduce further changes, so keep the original and inspect the result.
Which files can I convert to AVIF?
Select up to 20 images, 25 MB each. Conversion runs locally, one image at a time. The output is a still image; original HDR information and metadata are not fully preserved.
How should I check a JPG-to-AVIF conversion?
Compare faces, hair, foliage and skies with the JPG at the same display size. This tool uses a fixed lossy quality setting, with no quality slider. If detail or gradients suffer, keep the JPG rather than repeatedly converting the AVIF.
Will an AVIF always be smaller than my JPG?
No. A small or heavily compressed JPG may leave little room for savings. Compare the actual download sizes at the same pixel dimensions; a larger AVIF or a barely smaller copy with visible damage is not an improvement.
Should I replace every website JPG with AVIF?
Start with large photographic images that account for much of the page’s download size. Check that your publishing system accepts AVIF and serves it correctly. Keep the JPG for destinations that require it and as a source for later exports.
Does AVIF change the image dimensions?
No. The original pixel dimensions are kept. Images must be no more than 8,000 pixels per side and 32 million pixels in total. Reduce oversized images in an editor first.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Processing happens locally in your browser.
