Answers to common questions about this tool, image formats, and privacy.
Will my PNG keep its transparent background?
Yes. Transparent areas remain transparent in the AVIF. This does not make the conversion lossless: colours, edges and fine detail may change.
Which files can I convert to AVIF?
Select up to 20 images, 25 MB each. Conversion runs locally, one image at a time. The output is a still image; original HDR information and metadata are not fully preserved.
Is this PNG-to-AVIF conversion lossless?
No. Although AVIF can support lossless encoding, this tool uses a fixed lossy setting and has no quality slider. Transparency can remain while colours and fine edges change. Keep the PNG as the master for further editing.
Is AVIF a good choice for PNG screenshots and logos?
It depends on the detail. Large illustrations may shrink usefully, while small lettering and sharp logo edges can change. Inspect the result at its intended display size. Keep PNG when exact colours, crisp text or pixel-accurate graphics are essential.
How do I check transparent edges after conversion?
View the AVIF on both light and dark backgrounds, ideally in the page where it will appear. Check semi-transparent shadows, fine outlines and lettering for colour changes or halos. A transparent background alone does not mean the image is unchanged.
Does AVIF change the image dimensions?
No. The original pixel dimensions are kept. Images must be no more than 8,000 pixels per side and 32 million pixels in total. Reduce oversized images in an editor first.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Processing happens locally in your browser.
