FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about HEIC conversion, compatibility and privacy.

What is HEIC?

HEIC is an image container format commonly used by Apple devices for photos. It can store high-quality images efficiently, but JPG is supported by more software and online services.

Why convert HEIC to JPG?

JPG is widely supported by browsers, websites, email clients, image editors and other applications. Converting HEIC to JPG can make a photo easier to open, share and upload.

Are my HEIC photos uploaded to a server?

No. Pixilo performs the conversion in your browser. The selected image is processed on your device rather than uploaded to a conversion server.

Does HEIC to JPG conversion reduce image quality?

JPG uses lossy compression, so converting from HEIC can discard some image detail. Adjust the JPG quality, compare the preview and check the output size before downloading. A JPG can be larger than the original HEIC; higher quality does not guarantee a smaller file.

What is the maximum HEIC file size?

Choose up to 20 images, no more than 25 MB each. Decoded images must be no more than 8,000 pixels on either side and 32 million pixels in total. The tool processes photos one at a time; some HEIC encodings cannot be decoded.

Will the JPG keep my Live Photo and HDR features?

No. The result is a single still photo, not a Live Photo video. Original HDR information and metadata are not fully preserved. Keep the HEIC and any associated video in your photo library; use JPG as a separate sharing copy.
