Answers to common questions about image compression, file sizes, formats, and privacy.
Which AVIF images are supported?
Your browser must be able to open the AVIF file. If decoding fails, an error appears for that image and the remaining files continue processing. Animated AVIF files are exported as a single still image. Keep the original for animation or HDR use.
Why convert AVIF to JPG?
JPG is one of the most widely supported image formats, recognized by nearly every browser, app, and image viewer. Converting AVIF to JPG can be useful when you need broad compatibility, such as for older software or platforms that do not support AVIF.
Does converting AVIF to JPG reduce image quality?
JPG conversion can be lossy, so the result depends on the selected quality setting. Pixilo lets you adjust the quality before downloading the converted image, giving you control over the balance between file size and image quality.
Will my AVIF image keep its transparency after converting to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency. This converter fills transparent areas with white. Use PNG or WebP if you need to keep a transparent background.
Are my AVIF images uploaded to a server?
No. The AVIF to JPG conversion happens directly in your browser. The image file does not need to be uploaded to a conversion server.
What is the maximum AVIF file size?
Select up to 20 images, 25 MB each. By default, images with a side over 4,000 pixels are reduced proportionally. Turn off the dimension limit to keep original dimensions, within 8,000 pixels per side and 32 million pixels in total.
Why can a JPG be larger and still lose detail?
AVIF can store a photo more efficiently than JPG. Re-encoding as JPG may therefore produce a larger file while adding compression changes. Choose JPG to meet a compatibility requirement, then check the quality and size instead of treating conversion as an automatic upgrade.
