What is Pixilo?

Pixilo is a free browser-based toolkit for compressing, resizing, cropping and converting images. You can also create favicons, prepare images for social media and inspect or remove embedded photo metadata. Images are processed locally in your browser; the image-processing code does not send them to a conversion server. No account is required.

Why we built this

Large, unoptimized images are one of the most common reasons websites load slowly. We wanted a tool that is fast, free, and doesn't require creating an account or trusting a third party with your files — so we built one that runs entirely client-side.

How we check our tools and guides

Pixilo publishes practical guides about image formats, compression and preparing images for websites and sharing. The guides explain each tool’s actual output format and limits, and distinguish illustrative calculations from measured examples.

Our automated browser checks test conversions and downloads across the supported languages. Dedicated checks cover image dimensions, transparency, file size limits and mobile layouts. These checks verify specific behavior; they do not mean every possible image has been tested or that every conversion will make a file smaller. Keep your original and inspect the downloaded result.

Articles link to relevant format documentation and include an update date. When a guide contains measured results, it describes the inputs and settings so the comparison can be repeated. Pixilo is the publisher identified on the guides.
