FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about image compression, file sizes, formats, and privacy.

Should I choose PNG or JPG for a downloaded WebP?

Choose PNG for transparent graphics, screenshots or an editing copy that avoids another lossy encoding step. Choose JPG when a form requires it or a smaller photo is more practical. Converting to PNG does not make a compressed WebP more detailed.

Will an animated WebP stay animated as PNG?

No. This converter exports a single still image, not an animated PNG. Keep the WebP when motion matters. If you need a particular frame, extract that frame in an animation editor rather than relying on this conversion to select it.

Does converting WebP to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG avoids further lossy compression, but cannot restore details already lost in the WebP file.

Will transparency be preserved?

Yes. Transparent areas remain transparent in the PNG.

Why can the PNG file be larger?

PNG uses lossless compression, while a WebP may already be compressed more efficiently or with some loss of detail. Saving those pixels as PNG can therefore produce a larger file. It does not restore detail lost earlier.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Processing happens locally in your browser.

What is the maximum image file size?

Pixilo currently supports image files up to 25 MB per file. This covers many photos and images used for websites, documents, email, and social media. For larger files, reducing the image dimensions before compression can help create a smaller file.

Use dimensions up to 8000 pixels per side and no more than 32 million pixels in total.
