Answers to common questions about image compression, file sizes, formats, and privacy.
When should I choose PNG instead of JPG for a HEIC photo?
Choose PNG when your editor or destination requires it, or when you want to avoid another lossy compression step before further editing. JPG is often more practical for sharing photos because its files are usually smaller. Keep the original HEIC for your archive and check the converted copy.
Does conversion improve image quality?
PNG avoids adding lossy compression after the HEIC is decoded, but cannot recover detail already lost in the photo. This export does not fully preserve the HEIC’s HDR information, colour profiles or metadata. Check colour and orientation and keep the original.
Will the converted file be smaller?
A HEIC photo is already stored efficiently. PNG saves the decoded image losslessly, so the file may grow considerably even at the same dimensions. Choose PNG for editing or a destination that requires it; JPG is often more practical for sharing photos.
Can I convert HEIF files and Live Photos too?
You can select HEIC and HEIF files, but decoding support depends on how the file was encoded. The result is a single still image, not a Live Photo video or an animation. Keep the original if you need motion, multiple frames or other source features.
What should I do if a HEIC file will not convert?
Confirm that it is a genuine HEIC or HEIF image, not another format with a renamed extension. Check the 25 MB file limit and the pixel limits below. If it still fails, try another photo or export a compatible copy from your photo app; some encodings or damaged files cannot be decoded by this converter.
Will the image dimensions change?
Original pixel dimensions are preserved. Images must be no more than 8,000 pixels on either side and 32 million pixels in total. Export a smaller copy in your image editor first if needed.
Can I convert several photos and download them together?
Yes. Select up to 20 images, 25 MB each. Download completed files separately or as a ZIP once at least two are ready. A failed image does not block the others.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Images are processed locally in your browser, and the originals are not overwritten. Review the exported copy before sharing.
