Answers to common questions about this tool, image formats, and privacy.
How do I reduce an image below a file size limit?
Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP up to 25 MB, set the limit and select the output format. The tool tries compression first. It reduces dimensions only if you enable that option. Inspect the preview and the downloaded file before using it in a form.
Will the tool change the image dimensions?
By default, the original width and height stay unchanged. If you allow resizing, the tool may reduce both dimensions proportionally when compression alone cannot meet the limit. It does not crop or stretch the image.
Does reducing file size affect image quality?
JPG and WebP use lossy compression here. The tool tries to find the highest quality within its search range that meets your limit. A very small limit can remove visible detail. PNG does not use a quality setting, but reducing dimensions can still remove detail. Inspect the result and keep your original.
JPG cannot keep transparency. If you select JPG, transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose below.
What if the image cannot fit below my limit?
Some images cannot meet a strict limit with the chosen format and dimensions. Try a larger limit, a different format or allow proportional resizing. The tool will not offer a download that exceeds your chosen limit. Check the receiving service’s requirements too: it may use different size units or require specific dimensions.
Why is a PNG difficult to reduce below a small limit?
PNG keeps transparency, but its lossless encoding does not use a quality slider. A strict limit may require smaller dimensions or a different format.
What happens if my image is already small enough?
If the selected output format matches the original and the file already meets your limit, the tool offers the original file unchanged. It is not re-encoded, so its quality and embedded metadata remain unchanged. Use the metadata removal tool if you want to remove that information.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Processing happens locally in your browser.
